How did you hear about LivinginHD.com?
We first heard about it from an e-mail from Panasonic introducing us to the LiHD website after we had registered a new camera. We started cruising around LiHD.com and before we knew it, we’re posting our photos, videos, and at the forums! It’s such a great community. We’d been Panasonic shooters since we went to New Zealand in 2006. We researched and found Panasonic cameras to be the most reliable and gave the biggest bang for the buck. They’ve never let us down and are now huge fans of Panasonic products, so that made it easy for us to get into the LiHD community. What is your favorite photo/video out of the
ones you have currently uploaded to the site? That’s not an easy answer. Evan and I both love to take shots. I like the aviation shots and love the nature shots. Evan loves the aviation shots. I think for us it’s the thrill of the hunt that gives us the most fun. Getting that perfect shot is so hard and yet so rewarding. My favorite photo at the moment is of the warbler that drinks from our hummingbird feeder. I spent weeks stalking that shot. I was jumping up and down when I saw it full size on our Toughbook! Evan’s favorite is the one he got of the Blue Angels flying upwards in formation and vapor is bursting out all around them. It’s a beautiful photo. An unfortunate (for me) aspect is that Evan is a better air show photographer than I am! So usually I just give our GH1 to him when we’re at an air show! My favorite video is actually a slideshow of our Christmas day in San Francisco. It’s my favorite because I had so much fun snapping shots with our little ZS3 while doing the tourist thing in San Francisco. I really enjoyed spending the morning looking at San Francisco through the lens and trying to grab neat shots. What are some videography or photography tips you can share with the community?
I’d say one really important thing we’ve found is to really get to know the camera, its features, and the manual. There’s a lot of info in there to digest. I’ve spent many an hour tinkering with the camera as I’m reading the manual to learn all about what the camera can do. I’d also suggest the Digital Photography Academy online videos because there is a ton of great info from professionals and who better to learn from?! I think the most important thing however is to just go out and have fun taking shots. The more shots you take, the better they’ll get, and if you’re having fun doing it, so much the better! Lastly, what Panasonic product that you own is your favorite and why?
Unfortunately, that’s a very easy answer for both Evan and me – the GH1. It’s an amazing camera that is so versatile, powerful, and dependable. We do a lot of aviation photography for Evan’s website, www.evanflys.com and it has to shoot very fast airplanes in often awkward and difficult conditions. Its lightning fast autofocus and image stabilization gets us great shots consistently. It also shoots incredible HD videos! The reason the answer is unfortunate is because we both love it – and we’re bad at sharing!
