hi,

i was wondering if anyone here has suggestions for a good wireless router?  we've never had need of one before, but we have our install date to become one of the LiHD families at the end of the month, and we're going to need one by then.

thanks,

marybeth

I use Net Gear. It's easy to install and takes up very little room my desk.

Linksys household here. Easy to install, configure and reliable as all get up. Course, we are on our third wireless router, but we've been at it a few years. We replace when we upgrade bands, etc. Being a non-domestic woman, sometimes its just easier for me to replace it than dust it.

Their customer service is top notch too ... in case you need help getting it set up or help with the unit later.

Congrats on joining the families! That's wonderful!

I would definitely avoid the off-brand routers.   With those, you definitely get what you pay for.

I would definitely stick to name brands too and I don't think you can go wrong with Netgear or LinkSys.  Both are great. I have had the same netgear router for 5yrs with no problems. :)

Congrats on becoming an LiHD family! WOOT:)

You might want to check and make sure they're not including a router with your set-up.  I know some of the items for LiHD families have changed - but we got a router (Netgear) with our stuff.  We already had a Linksys router.  I can't say I have a preference for either, but our Linksys has been very reliable.

Thanks, there is something on the inventory list that says 5 port switch and under model # it says Linksys #SD205, so I'll try to google that and see if it is a router.  Thanks for the tip!

I have always had a Linksys router and have found them to be easy to install, excellent support and no problems. As everyone else has suggested, sticking to a brand name  with a good reputation is the best idea.  The model you mentioned, SD205 has gotten great reviews and is inexpensive; about $25.00 at most electronics sites.  This piece of equipment will tie all of your equipment together and considered a Hub.  This is different than a router but used when there are different pieces of network equipment involved iin the design.  Panasonic is probably providing the router, but as long as you purchase what they gave from the list of inventory, you should be okay.  WOW, how exciting too in becoming another LiHD family.  You are in great company here with the other families who are doing a great job using and sharing their work.
