Satellite TV vs. Cable

Just wondering if I should consider switching to a Satellite TV provider.  They seem to have lower

prices, but I haven't heard good things about them.  Does anyone know some of the pros/cons?

We had satellite when we lived on Toledo Bend Lake and I have to say I prefer cable. The satellite would always go in and out especially when it rained. I'll take cable any day.

Ugh ... that's no fun. I have a friend in MS that has satellite as they live way, way out in the country and cable isn't an option. They do it as much for an internet connection as tv but, as you, they report it's terrible with bad weather. Guess that's not something they've been able to overcome yet.

I'll stick with cable!

until recently, we had both, DirecHDTV is great, but expensive...we suspended out DirecTV account, but will prolly turn them back on September 3d, just in time for the College Football Season; on t'other hand, if they don't sweeten the deal, we'll pick up Comcast &/or Dish Network...we're already wired for BOTH!!!

When it worked, it worked well for me.  But I really got upset when heavy storms rolled in and my television rolled out.

The good thing about satellite was that we could order channels from other parts of the country - like the west coast NBC affiliate.  That way we made sure we could watch The West Wing (still my favorite TV show of all time) if we missed the east coast showing.   Of course, we didn't have a dvr at the time. That would have solved that problem.

What Tede said about rain is absolutely true.  Almost anytime it rained the satellite would go out.

Additionally, I prefer cable internet to DSL or {gasp} dialup. If the cable is going to come to the house, it might as well provide television as well as internet.

At one time I had AOL via satellite years ago, but I've heard satlellite intenet is very expensive now. I'll stick with cable all the way around.

Well, it sounds like a common problem then, that when it rains the satellite goes out.  My problem is in our area, only

one cable company can be used in a city.  You cant choose who you want so its cable or satellite.  You can choose

a few different phone companies, but not all - because of my location.  I currently use my cable company for phone, internet

and TV, but satellite would be a LOT cheaper for the TV part.  I dont think I'll be switching at this point.

Out of date? Nah, not at all ...

We had both cable and satellite TV for sometime because, well, I guess we could. The kids enjoyed lots of the extended channels you can only find on satellite. When they flew the nest, we stopped using the satellite. While there were lots of options, there weren't many that we "used" beyond cable. Haven't missed it at all.
