Afternoon, all ... I noticed I'm not the only one that associates movies with holidays. ;) I guess I can thank the oodle of Christmas specials I grew up on. Of course, we'll start with the 4th of July as it's just recently passed. My must haves for that holiday are: The Patriot and Independence Day. What are you guys watching to celebrate the holidays? I'm ready to expand my library and cheer! Thanks!

The Halloween season can't go by without us watching "The Nightmare before Christmas", Tim Burton's masterpiece. I mentioned in another post that "1776" goes in the DVD player every July 4th. Also, I started rewatching my John Adam's DVDs (the mini-series) today. That should keep me busy for a week!
Like you said, there are LOTS of Christmas movies - but my absolute favorite is The Bishop's Wife, with Cary Grant, David Niven, and Loretta Young.
But what about other holidays? Easter, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving? Are there movie classics to go with those holidays?
I'll have to get my hands on Nightmare before Christmas and 1776. I've never seen either! John Adams ... ah yes, that is a wonderful series. Believe it or not, I still love White Christmas. The dancing in that is tremendous - I never fail to enjoy it no matter how many times I've seen it. Easter is my time for The Greatest Story Ever Told. Valentines .... can't say I've ever celebrated that with a movie, but if I was, it'd probably be You've Got Mail - another one I adore. Thanksgiving ... lol: Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It makes me laugh off the overeating every time! Thanks for the tip on those two - I'll be checking them out way, way before the holidaze!

How about our Independence Day :) I got to watch that old classic Yankee Doodle Dandy Oh the music and the upbeat cinema. I am such a believer in Patriotism and this movie just presses those buttons.

I like any and everything by Tim Burton. Didnt he also do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands? I confess, I'm a Johnny Depp fan. As for my favorite holiday movie(s).... A Christmas Story and loved the Polar Express.

I personally like to watch some of the classics around holiday times. especially all those sappy winter holiday movies. I also like patriotic movies around the 4th and one of my favorites is "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with James Cagney playing George M. Cohan. All together now, You're a Grand Old Flag...........Keep your eye on the Grand Old Flag!!

I like Independence Day but it's not always shown on the 4th- you can see it year round these day, but the speech by Bill Pullam playing the President is really great about perserving our 'independence".
