Oooh! Good luck to you and Miss Star! She sure is a beauty! She looks intelligent, too. I bet she does very well.
Thank you, Linda! Today is day 1 of a 5 day event. She may not even get to run til tomorrow morning as she's so far down on the running order. At the end of each series, they have "call backs" and if your dog is called back, they are invited to participate in the next event. I'll be sitting on pins and needles until and if the call backs stop happening for her.
She is a smart girl - but a dog all the same. Like people, they have good days and bad days - and five days will generally be a good test of who the dog is. LOL! She's done her homework and trained hard, but we'll just have to see. Luck is still a huge player in outdoor games.
Sure wish I could be there to watch her run but South Dakota is a far piece from Texas. IF she goes to the last series, I may just have to find my way in the dark. ;) Thanks again!
Thanks, all!! Man, this finger crossing seems to really be helping. If you can guys can keep at it for just a little bit longer, I'd truly appreciate it.
Just got the call with Day 2's results from our flight and we're down to 25 dogs remaining in the game from 79 starting it on Saturday. The great news is my girl's 1 of the 25.
Who knows what tomorrow brings - will just have to wait and see. The only thing I know for sure about tomorrow is I'll spend it on pins and needles with knees knocking. lol!
Day 3's report .... we passed! We now move to the flight's 4th Series tomorrow, along with 19 of our canine friends. IF we pass tomorrow, then it's on to the final series: the Upland. I'm so nervous that not a bone in my body isn't rattling!
If you've never seen a labrador upland hunt, you might enjoy seeing how they do it. It's not the same as pointers do it. Pointer's "point" to where you'd find an upland bird. Retrievers get in and flush the bird if it doesn't "scare" off the ground when it sees the dog. When the handler blows the whistle, the dog sits and waits until released. This is a lab's favorite hunting cause they get to use their instincts: quartering, scent, etc. Note: no real birds are injured in the exercise example below. The gun is loaded with a "popper" - it just makes noise to mimmick hunting. (sshhh, don't tell the dog)
What a beautiful dog. Good luck, Miss Star!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!! Well, tomorrow is the last series of the Grand and we got called back to play. YAYAYAYA!! Down to 15 dogs now ... this should be pretty quick.
One more day - then y'all can uncross the fingers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I cannot believe this! Wow. I only wanted this to happen for one of my dogs for 20 years now. ::: laughs :::
