Do you homeschool?

Hi there!

I know that there are at least a few of you out there who homeschool, but I'd love to know if there are more!

I have six young kiddos who range from age 21 months up to 8 years old. My oldest are twins and all but one are boys. :) Homeschooling, for me, has been a way of life, as I was homeschooled along with my four younger siblings. My kids have never stepped foot in any "classroom".

How about you - Do you homeschool? What curriculum do you you use? Or are you like us and use a bit of everything? Please share!

Hi!  We are homeschoolers, too.  What started out as "I'll try this one year - kindergarten can't be that hard!" has turned into eleven years now.  Our kids are 16,13,11, and 9.  We use a mix of stuff - I like unit studies and started out with Five in a Row, but I write most of my own units now.

No homeschooling for us, not because I don't think it's a wonderful choice, but because I really don't know anything about how it works. I've never considered myself to be very talented in the teaching aspect.

THE youngs how do you do it all? You certainly have your hands full.

I could never home school I don't have the patience.WHen my son was in 5th grade I rmemeber him bringing home homework that I couldn't even help with . Math was my worst subject. My children can receive a far better education in the school system than I can teach them. I do it all summer that's about all can handle

I can sit here and think of a million reasons homeschooling might be ideal for some. However, I am very, very thankful I wasn't homeschooled.  I'd have missed making friends and the peer experiences way too much. I think I probably learned more from interacting with other students and teachers than I did from any lesson plan. Course that's probably just me.

I dunno, maybe it is me but homeschooling is such a great idea. there are great more productive ways to socialize children, the right community organizations with ongoing supervision, gatherings in a supervised environment for the neighborhood kids.

My friend in CA has homeschooled her children for years and they are so well rounded, even play piano and are active in sports and the community. They are 'volunteers'

My neighbor homeschools her 4 children. The same... they are wonderful and sociable without the edge.

It is hard to believe that the majority of children really do a decent job in school with all the bad press, but it all begins and ends with the role modelling of the parents.

Children learn what they SEE and not what they HEAR!

Of course there's room for both classroom and homeschooling - but I was an only child until the age of 16 and would not have

wanted to be home-schooled. I had so many school related activities growing up and took many, many lessons that I had

my school friends attend also.   I think you learn a lot of socialization in classrooms that you will need when you

start working.   It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.........with so much competition for jobs these days, the more

you can bring to the table, the better off you'll be.
