Just got a GH1 and the 14-140 lens.

Heard about the 25mm, 1.4 lens and was wondering if any of you have a pro/con opinion of it and also compared to the 20mm if you have that one.  There is about a $100 differnce in price, is the 25 worth it?

I don't know if this site is still alive, so Happy Holidays ,to all.

I have the 25mm 1.4 and I love it!  Incredibly crisp and especially helpful in low light use.  I do miss zoom with it but it forces me to work more for the best shots.  I don't have the 20mm though so i can't compare.

I'm afraid I can't compare directly either, as I only have the 20mm.  But it's been a delight to have - fast enough for low light shooting, even without O.I.S. anti-shake, and delightfully portable with my GF1 body.  So, no real answer to whether the price difference is worth it, but the good news is that there's not a bad choice to be made - either way you should end up with something fun and versatile.

Thanks, guys, I guess you are correct, either one is good.

One thought, the GF1 with the smaller body may work better with the slimmer 20mm, and the fatter GH1 may not matter as much with the bigger 25mm.

Nice to see the old site still lives a little.

Think they'll update the reward program?

It appears that they're putting more effort into the Panasonic facebook presence these days.  I'm guessing it's easier for someone to hit the 'like' button and automatically start getting updates there than it is to go to a separate site on a regular basis.

Thanks.  I don't do facebook so I don't know how it works for Pan.

how is it going with the GH1 and what lenses do you have?  DPREVIEW.com has some information on these, as does www.four-thirds.org

I decided to sell off my Nikon gear, and dive into the GH2 ... i have ordered it but not recieved it yet.

Still learning the ropes with the GH1 and the lens I have is the 14-140mm.  I am surprised at what I was able to get out of my old DMC-FZ10 at night, handheld.  The 140 is a long lens and therefore needs to be very steady and the small aperture doesn't help.  Other than that it seems to be a good camera, but if you don't do long low-light shots, you may be better off with the 14-45mm.  Yes, I am now a member of DPreview.

Also, you may be able to use some of your Nikon lenses with an adapter on the GH2 for low light and shallower depth of field (DOF).

dpreview was and is my main site for learning all the ins and outs, and I could not compliment it more; its very diverse and technical and seems to have commentary on nearly every subject in the forums ... so see you in the U4/3 forums i guess!

I am going to go with the 14-42, even if getting it is a challenge ... I hope i can replace my LX5 range with this lens on the GH2, therefore allowing me to sell the LX5 off as well as the larger Nikon gear  - there seems to be alot of similar emotion about that in the dpreview forums. I want the GH2 - 14-42 lens to be about the same size/carry effort as my LX5. I LOVE my LX5 too, more than any camera I have ever had. The 14-140 looks really really tempting with the range, however I want a daily lens setup that is reasonably compact. I have gotton used to the shorter range on the LX5 and have no issues with it. What will be the big question is that my favorite activity is night-lo light, which the LX5 is tops at.

I think Panasonic has it very right on this product line, the 4/3 and u4/3. I like the full HD video and potential to shoot 3D, which really interests me.

As you as a Nikon shooter as well may have faced that an upgrade in that brand is mega $$$, and it only gets heavier.

I shopped the GH2 very hard, ended up with an retail store/ebay seller purchase so it is new from an authorized dealer. I assume the complete LACK of used GH products on the "market" is a sign that they are good and highly coveted. I shopped that same way for the 100-300mm lens, got is from Crutchfield.com. So ends my immediate purchases and paypal slush fund:)
