but, IF I didn't already own 2 HD DVD players, I'd buy one, just to take advantage of all the $5, or less HD DVD's that are out there...

Blu-ray is an awesome experience.  Our panasonic blu-ray player also improves the quality of our standard dvds.  Animation is wonderful in blu-ray.  Personal favorites include: Ice Age, Monsters, Cars, Polar Express & Pinocchio 70th Anniversary Ed.

There are some great deals out there now for DVDs.  If you have a DVD player in your vehicle, it might still be worthwhile to purchase some of the DVDs.  Does anyone know when bu ray players will be made for vehicles.  I have not heard about any, but would think a logical next step in development.   Because of the economy and people not making new vehicle purchases, there might not be as much demand.  On the other hand, since these players for the most part portable, people might find wanting to put in Blu ray in their vehicles once they have in their homes.

with HD, whether Blu or HD DVD, you get true 1080p content & well as HD Sound: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD &/or DTS-HD Master Audio!!!

I LOVE blu ray.  I'm sad to admit it, but I'm turing into an HD snob.  When I watch something and it's not it HD, it drives me crazy!

I'm becoming less and less taken by HD. I miss the old analog signal and white noise.

YSR ... share what you learn about those satellite packages! LOL
