Both Sony and Panasonic announced this week that they will be releasing 3D television sets in 2010. Glasses will still be required to see depth. My question is, will you jump on this new technology, or will you wait and see what happens? If you decide to wait, would it be because of price, or because of features? Personally, while I am a great fan of 3D anything (going back to the old View Master), I don't think this technology is ripe for prime time yet. While I certainly applaud the efforts to make 3D TV mainstream, requiring more things to watch TV (moooom! daaaad! where are my 3D glasses?!), is not a good thing. While the Lord of the Rings in 3D would surely be a spectacle, Anderson Cooper wouldn't be...

In these economic times I think a lot of people will be reluctant to getting 3dTVs. However, I think personally it would be a great addittion to my family room. Our weekly movie night would be such a more exciting experience. I get a rush of adrenaline just thinking about what it would be like to watch my favorite football team in 3DTV. I agree that 3D TV would only be good for certain channels and movies but so is HDTV and it's now the standard for televisions. So, in all, If I had the money and wasn't a college student would definitely be interested in purchasing one.

Having seen the 3D TV demo from Panasonic at CES in January, I could see 3D TV taking hold. The picture quality was flawless and the 3D was spectacular. What impressed me most was not things "popping out" at me, but the depth it brought to any event that was filmed live (like the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics). If the industry standardizes (as Panasonic is currently working on), then we should have more content. While I would want at least one dedicated channel of 3D to jump in and use it, I would love for my TV to be in 3D! I think that it will be like HD, once people see it, they won't want to go back.

Hey at some point this 3D technology will go down in price just like every other technology and when it does, I'll be happy to check it out! Although I'm sure movie theaters won't get nearly as much money in revenue once it becomes more mainstream!

I think it probably is the future - but I'm not sure how far out in the future. Personally, I would be more likely to spend big bucks on the video wall like I saw at the Panasonic place in Tokyo. You could have a TV and internet and Wii games all playing on the wall at the same time, and just go up and drag things around on the wall just like using a mouse on your computer. I wish I could post a pic. of the video wall, but this was something they wouldn't let us take pictures of.

Now that video wall in 3D, THAT would be interesting and immersive... Of course, by that time I'll still be playing World of Warcraft, on a video wall, in 3D...

I could see it definitely taking hold. We prefer watching our movies at home and this would just add another interesting dimension. As Kate said once it is on the market awhile the price always comes down. Look how fast hd is taking hold. Once you have it there is no going back. We just love the fact that technology has no boundaries. Can't wait to see what is yet to come.
