Does anyone have them and how do you use them?

We have one and used it only a few times.  We use a free program called Skype for instant messaging and sending files and with Skype, you can also use webcams.

Thanks Tim.  Never knew skype had webcams.  We used skype  all the time when my daughter was in Peace Corps.

I also use a webcam with Skype to talk to my relatives in Europe from time to time. I also use it (but only the voice part) when I participate in World of Warcraft raids.

Other (legal) uses include home security, baby-monitor, and narcissism :)

Will the skype camera work with all the viera cast tvs or just the newest models?

I used mine when I had one to talk to friends around he world. It is great to keep up with people I meet in my travels as well. The webcam for TV's sounds amazing, I do not know if I will get it though!

The Panasonic Skype camera only works with the latest VT models. Unfortunately, you can't use a generic webcam for the Panasonic Skype feature, their camera does come with 4 built-in microphones though, so the whole family can chat.

However, the Skype software is still in beta, and I've heard from a reliable source that it still doesn't function 100%. There was a firmware upgrade for the latest VT models this past week which was supposed to resolve some Skype issues, but I'm holding off until I have confirmation that it works.

I've been hearing more and more about Panasonic's Skype feature. It's cool how now u can interact with other people with your own tv instead of webcams on labtops. Not only that, you can see them in HD and up to 5x bigger than a regular laptop screen!

Im sure the Skype software will live up to its expectations sooner or later as word goes out about it to the popular market segments in the US. Since it's still relatively new, I would expect it not to be perfect but I'm sure it well reach its perfection eventually as does any new product or feature usually do.

I need to get a laptop with a webcam, they are awesome for keeping in touch with friends, and for making video journals. :) It would be cool to interact over the tv with friends!
