I posted this on my profile, but wanted to share it here. There's a new strap, designed in part by photographer James Duncan Davidson, by Luma Labs that's getting a ton of buzz on the web. This is the website - http://www.luma-labs.com and the intro video:
A friend of mine, who I respect a lot loves his R-Strap. He says he wouldn't shoot without it! The website is here - http://www.blackrapid.com/ and the intro video is here:
The website also has a number of other videos and info about the product.
i received my Luma Loop last week and took it for a spin last weekend. I really enjoyed using it - the strap keeps my G1 close across my body and gives my hand natural access to the camera to shoot quickly, so I don't miss a shot. Very much recommended.
There's a great video they posted on how much weight it can take - I've attached it here. And I took it out today and I never felt like my camera was in danger of falling. And I swung it around pretty good ;)
That's a pretty cool looking strap. If I ever replace mine I may grab one of those.
I currently have the OP/TECH Pro strap and love it. My biggest test of it was a couple of years ago shooting a race. Spent roughly 10 hours a day for 3 days walking around SoCal with it on, with a fairly heavy lens on my cam the whole time (70-200 f/2.8 VR with the tripod collar on) and didn't experience any neck or back pain. the weight of the camera never really bothered me at all. My bag (SlingShot 200 AW) was more of a nuisance, and I'm pretty sure it weighted less since the cam body and primary lens weren't in it.
I've been using my LumaLoop for over almost 2 weeks now - and it's made a huge difference in how I take pictures. In fact, my camera is always on my body now instead of in my bag, so I can shoot anything at any time. It feels totally secure, and I had no fears that the camera would fall. It's been great to use as I experiment with my Lensbaby Composer (for a class I'm taking) and I've been able to capture some fun moments and try things - like the bench shot. I felt secure that, even with the angle I held the camera, it was safe and I could just shoot.
Here is one of my pics from the last 2 weeks - I might have missed it without my LumaLoop!
