So I really love my G1 but the only limitation it has is the zoom lens.  I'm looking into getting another one but again, I'm no pro!  Any suggestions from all you DSLR owners?

The 14-140 lens that comes with the GH1 is an amazing lens.  Really crisp shots.  It's not enough zoom for us so we went to the 45-200mm lens and it's great too.

Rumor has it the Panasonic has a 100-300mm lens in the works.  If so, we'll be all over it!Smile  We need more zoom for our air show shots.

There are a lot of adapters out there that allow using other brand lenses - like Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc.  The problem is you won't get all the features, like auto focus or image stabilization.  That makes for some cool options but we're sticking with Panasonic lenses because we need AF and OIS.

hope this helps!

You rock!  Can't wait to be able to afford to get a great lense and until the weather is nice so I can take some better shots.  :)

SO in addition to the 45-140 which came with my G1, I got my hands on a 45-250mm (H-FS045200).  Love it.

NOw I'm trying to get one of the pancake lens (H-H020).  Fixed lens F1.4, would make awesome portraits..  But for the love of trying.  NO-one seems to have it.  They're all backordered (seems Panasonic bundled them ALL with the GF1s...hmmph)...with the exception of ordering from Japan on ebay (at almost 2x the price).

So apart fomr that frustration, and no real news of new lens on the way just yet,  keep referring to this site. http://www.panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/lens/index.html.

So even though i'm now beginning to enter this photography thing... the advice i got was to get the 45-250 lens next...which gives you a lot more flexibility... then you cna look inot getting a macro lens or a pancake.  (which reminds me... I really need to put my pics up.)

Oh... are you able to use the RW2 format on your computer?  (i.e. on a mac?)   :(

Just got my  GH1 last week and looking forward in using it, up until now I've been using an old Canon A-1 which I bought back in 1982. Will use it from time to time, but I'll use the GH1 more. The pictures I've taken so far are really sharp and clear, mostly scenery shots for now, also would like to get a filter or two for it any suggestion.

Hi Gery,

I like using a polarizer frequently and having a UV filter is nice to just protect the lens.  A neutral density filter comes in handy on bright days when the shutter speed is slow.

Great posts guys...wish I have answer to some of your questions, though.

I've settled on getting the Lumix 14-140mm HD for its silent focus capabilities during video shootings.  Not that I shoot a lot of videos but sometimes occasions call for them and having focusing noise picked up by the mic made the videos unusable.

Question:  Have you used the 20mm f1.7 on videos shots?  Does the focus noises get picked up by the camera mic?

We don't have that lens but my understanding is it's essentially silent - and a very good lens!  You should ask over at this group where there are a ton of excelent videos and experts http://www.vimeo.com/groups/gh1

My G1 is one of the original models that doesn't do video.  However, I do have the f1.7 pancake lens.  It actually is a little noisy in AF mode as it constantly seems to be refocusing.  But if you were videoing something at a fixed distance, you can manually focus and it will stay quiet.  I don't feel I've quite gotten the hang of this new lens yet.
