Will you be interested in buying one down the line?  What do you think of them from what you read?  Same old with a minor upgrade or something very innovative?  Would love to hear your thoughts.

We sometimes get amusing press releases here at CNET, and while the one we just received from Panasonic doesn't take the cake, it certainly elicited a chuckle or two.

Next week--March 10 to be exact--Panasonic has an event planned at a Best Buy store here in Manhattan. Company execs will proudly cut the ribbon on 3D TV sales at a press conference, and then, according to the invite, there will be a "photo/video opportunity of the first sale of the world's first-ever full HD 3D home theater system."

As far as publicity stunts go, it's not bad, but you just don't picture people lining up to buy 3D TVs like they do for iPhones and once did for new Windows releases. And with a 3D TV, it's not like you get a shot of someone holding up the device or a box of software, pumping their fist in the air.

Who will be the first person to buy a full HD 3D home theater system? We'll just have to wait to find out. But in the meantime, feel free to give it your best guess. We'll post an image next week to see if anybody's description matches the photo.

I think people will THINK it's just a minor upgrade until they see it. It is truly remarkable to see sports, concerts and other performances in 3D. Avatar and the new Alice in Wonderland (so I hear) are really showing how 3D can be used to draw us into the entertainment. The clarity and depth are so much better than most movie theatersareableto produce. The biggest problem is content- though I know DirectTV has 3 channels coming this year and I think there will be a lot of 3D blu-Rays coming up.

(Obviously I'm a little excited about the roll out of HD3D- that's because I've seen it!) I think it will be innovative and will start changing how we experience home entertainment.

Bob and I can't wait to see one.   We will definitely be visiting Best Buy when they become available in our area.  Avatar was a wonderful experience. With these tvs do you need to wear 3D glasses?

I'm looking forward to seeing it. Can't quite imagine it. I haven't yet seen Avatar and I can't wait to see Alice-but I have to say I haven't really seen a 3D movie yet that was that much of an improvement over a regular film. It still seems more like a gimmick and the glasses are intrusive.  Having said that HD quality at home is amazing and the next move to immersion in your video experience has to be 3D. I think I heard somewhere that all the new animated movies are expected to be produced in 3D. I would think it could be amazing for video games especially. I guess I have to say I am waiting to be convinced.

Yes, you will have to wear glasses with the TV. The technology behind the glasses is pretty darn amazing! You can see it here: http://www.panasonic.com/3d/watch-IA8St57xnx4.aspx

I think initially the demand will be small because the technology is so new, expensive, and not well supported by TV networks, on DVD, or through games. There are always those early adopters who will jump on this because it is so cool and new. I think the big thing right now is to role it out and get people interested just like Plasma TVs and LCD TVs did a few years back. They too used to be too expensive for most people. Over time with mass production and advances in manufacturing the costs will go down and the interested parties will make the leap to 3D. This is just my opinion but it's based on what I've seen in the past. Heck, if I could I'd get one and show it off for the world to see. :)
