While this is not the Viera tablet people were expecting, this Android-based, Toughbook branded tablet looks like a solid (pun intended) entry into the tablet market! http://www.androidcentral.com/panasonic-announces-their-first-toughbook-branded-android-tablet?

This isn't about the latest and the greatest. With the toughbook name it should be well received in the business and governmental worlds it is intended for. Our County Commissioners recently switched over to I-Pads in order to go paperless. So much more convenient and no paper waste.

I can't wait to see it... I've been waiting for Panasonic to come out with a tablet! Love my Toughbook computer, so I imagine the tablet will be as great!! Hope it won't be too long before it's available for purchase! Any idea what you think it will cost? Would like to use my Panasonic gift card for that!!!!!

Thanks Sebastian, I saw this too on Cnet. It sounds like a great product-a sturdier, tougher version of the tablets that seem to be everywhere. Great for buisness use but not the Viera tablet we were expecting. I still haven't seen any news about that. Anyone else heard more about when it might be available or a price point. jb

I did hear recently that this tablet is specifically geared towards service professionals and not so much home users. So while I still hope they're working on a consumer tablet, the fact that there are now iPad/iPhone apps that can control Panasonic Viera TVs, I'm not all that hopeful we'll see more development towards the Android-based consumer tablet. But I hope to be proven wrong :)

Sebastian, as usual, I'm with you. I'd rather have a Panasonic tablet cause then I know I'll get the most out of the app/tablet for my devices. I have a iPod shuffle but that's the only ios device I need. I'd rather have a Panasonic VIERA ecosystem with fringe iOS devices rather than depend on Apple to see the world with a Panasonic holistic worldview. Apple is a bit too maccentric for me, that's great but as a PC, beyond iTunes, Apple Express, iOS is not the party for me and what I do. Help Panasonic, please rescue us from iStuff ;-) i am a droid!

This tablet has now been made available. And as mentioned in the initial post, it is not intended for the average consumer, its price point is a lot higher than conventional tablets, but this is in line with the Toughbook laptops, which are geared more towards law enforcement, construction, etc. http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-57320328-264/panasonic-reveals-industrial-strength-android-tablets/
