One cannot live on HD movies alone, not to mention that there’s a ton of great TV programming out there.  What shows or programs do you think the members of our community should not miss?  Is it a college football game?  The hottest new cop drama? Share your favorites here.

Heroes on Blu-ray is the ultimate HD tv show experience.  Highly recommended!  So many cool extras too!

Okay, again, not a techie here, but what is Blu-ray exactly?  I need a blu-ray player to play a blu-ray dvd right? If I had one and tried it on my regular dvd player, what would happen - nothing show up?

Second, how does blu-ray differ from hd?  Thanks!

Yes, Blu-Ray is the "next generation" of DVD.  Regular DVDs use a basic red laser, Blu-Ray uses.. yep, a blue one.  (Blue-violet, actually).  Without getting too in-depth, the blue-violet ray can be focused to a more precise spot, allowing the information to be packed tighter on the disc and therefore use less space. More space means more information can be stored and more information means more detail to the picture.  Heck, one company has even managed to get 500GB on one disc!  (Regular DVDs hold about 4.5GB)

HD DVDs are no longer being made.  Blue-Ray won the format war, just like VHS beat out Betamax decades ago.

I hope this helps some.

wow EcceFama,  thanks    I know that I will be able to talk to my kids like someone more in-tuned to their generation.

It is so interesting finding out the hows and whys. Maybe you can answer this, can we interchange disks/movies etc on a blue ray and, conversely, on a regular dvd player?

I have so many that I would not want to have to replace.

Thanks

Like any good technology, most Blue-Ray players are backwards compatible.  The bulk of them will play Blue-Ray discs, DVDs and usually CDs.

I hope this helps, Alee!

Blu-Ray is here to stay and will only get even better, I hope the price of the DVD will get better as well.

HD programming should also get better too, with more channels being added to your cable options and the content as well will be very cool in the next coming year.

I have 12 Bluray DVD's and look for deals or price drops for those DVD that are out there for a nice deal from retailers.

I grew up with MTV so I enjoy concerts and shows of my favorite groups, Pallaida is an awesome channel that showcases concerts. I have seen a lot of shows in person but, sometimes we can't all go to shows or events.

Planet earth, is one of my top on my list and with more movies jumping on I think my small library will be more Blu-Ray to watch those movies I have in my collection. I am waiting for Starwars to go Blu and when that happens I will be there in line.

1080p + Blu-Ray + sweet surround sound 5.1 or 7.1 home theater is key to your enjoyment in HD.

The key to all of the following movies is that you have not only the Blu-Ray, but the tv to support how great they look. We've got a Panasonic Viera PZ850...

Iron-Man: Best all around picture and sound

Wall-E: Pixar is always so great, you don't even notice how great they are!

Horton Hears a Who: Phenomenal animation never looked so good!

Speed Racer: not a great plot, but outstanding visuals on this screen

Planet Earth: This is what Blu-Ray and this TV were made for!

I'll keep you posted as I keep seeing more!

As far as TV goes- Music is not my passion, but anything on the Palladia channel is awesome because the HD is so amazing. Also, anything on the Smithsonian channel has become our favorite!
