In this day and age when we are creating lots of content whether it's high resolution digital photos with SLR Cameras (Nikon D300s) or HD video home movies with SONY HD cameras, the one thing that will haunt us creators as a perennial problem is the storage of our high res photo and video data. That's gigabytes upon gigabytes of data that has to be stored and archived somewhere after the project has been edited and burned to DVD.
Imagine, a standard play miniDV tape when ingested roughly fits into a 4.7GB DVD disc. If you're using dual layer DVD, that's only 2 mini-DV tapes worth of footage that can be stored.
So, when I learned about Blu-ray media having a capacity of 25GB per single layer, I dove right in without any hesitation. My 25GB Blu-ray media of choice is made by DIGISTOR, also the maker of external Blu-ray burners that connect and power via USB. DIGISTOR Blu-ray burners have a Panasonic Blu-ray drive UJ-235A inside for reliable and secure burning of loads of digital data! 25GB burn at 2X will last for at least an hour and you better free up the resources of your computer or you might have a shiny new Bluray coaster. :-D
