“Oh brother, here we go again,” the tall man thought, tilting his head and glancing up at the sky. The chaotic shape of the clouds matched his mood, thoughts of what had happened and what was yet to come tumbling through the man’s mind like a tornado about to materialize. Instinctively pulling his head between his shoulders, as if to brace himself for the worst, the man continued down the path, not really sure of where it was taking him, but the promise of something better than where he was now pulling him on like a magnet.

His once black boots now completely encrusted in hardened, cracked dust, the man noticed that the path started to slope downwards slightly, the sight in front of him only briefly slowing his pace. The landscape had started to match the sky; dramatic was the only word he could think of to describe it.

Devastation and despair was all he could see for miles. Where once stood homes, stores, a gas station and so much more reduced to mere rubble. His heart raced, his skin crawled and his eyes darting furtively back and forth looking for signs of life anything or anyone still breathing, still moving. He saw none. Head spinning, it took all the strength he had to move forward towards his own street forcing his feet to move knowing yet not wanting to believe that all he held dear in this world was no more. He raced as if his life depended on it towards his own hellish reality. As he stood staring in disbelief at what once was his entire world reality came crashing down. The anger, frustration and sense of loss consumed his entire being . Screaming, flailing his arms in utter despair Damian fell to his knees in anguish. Realizing in that moment that life as he knew it had ceased to exist. As he lay there …
