With a specific point of focus, landscape or building pictures becomes surreal and toy-like as color fringing occurs toward the outside of the photograph, as seen in this shot of the old Tucson Inn. I am still trying to determine how the Lensbaby does it, but when photographing large-scale items such as buildings or stadiums, the Lensbaby has this fantastic ability to turn those objects into almost a surreal, toy-like appearance. The point of focus with the Lensbaby certainly determines the subject, but also it’s the blurring which gives it a painterly effect.
In addition to the Lensbaby photo of the old Tucson Inn, I dulled the color using NIK software’s ColorEfex Pro 3.0’s Indian Summer filter, to help give the image a vintage feel, similar to many photos along the infamous Route 66.
